Physicochemical Analysis of Water Extracts of Particulate Matter from Polluted Air in the Area of Kraków, Poland

Solubility of transition metal compounds plays a significant role in adverse health effects because that is one the most important factors particulate matter bioavailability body. In this study, we focus on chemical analysis (PM) collected at different locations area Kraków, polluted cities Poland, and compare them with Standard Reference Material (SRM) 1648a from NIST. The content four elements (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur) was determined by elemental analysis, ratio between organic inorganic carbon PM extracts confirmed Total Organic Carbon analysis. Among concentrated found there are calcium, magnesium, sulfur, silicon, zinc, whereas copper, iron, manganese were present lower concentrations. SEM-EDS showed similar morphology SRM urban while industrial has smaller particles smooth surface. reported analyses for APARIC project (“Air Pollution versus Autoimmunity: Role multiphase aqueous Inorganic Chemistry”), which aims to identify main components understand how they affect development immunological diseases.
